Renegade: Hit or Miss?

Renegade: Hit or Miss?

Every generation is marked by its trends in fashion, slang, and yes, its dance moves.

The hot, new app TikTok not only records these current trends—it creates them. The Renegade, danced to the song Lottery by Atlanta rapper K Camp, is the newest up-and-coming dance trend. Who knew that a 15-second dance could become such a viral sensation!

Viewers can definitely tell how quickly dance trends change, through, each year. For example, 2010’s biggest dance trend was The Dougie. The Dougie was danced to the song Teach Me How to Dougie by Cali Swag District. This dance moves are mainly just in the arms but, because of its ease, remains somewhat popular today. Five years later, in 2015, Silento recorded a song called Watch Me, really changing the game for dance. Likewise, the dance The Whip and The Nae Nae are also still in affect today and are even featured in many TikTok dances now!

But, 2019-2020 has been a revolutionary year for dance. Just like the Renegade, there are many other dances evolving every day. “Dance trends through the year have really changed,” states Jason Hernandez 10. “They used to be so simple, but now they’re difficult.” Dancing isn’t comprised of just a few simple hand movements anymore. Renegade is made up of fast arm and upper body movements. While hard at first, don’t throw in the towel just yet. Or, come up your own moves! “I make TikTok dances, and I’m getting good at it, too” adds Faith Mwalwanda 10. “It’s a good way to pass time and a fun thing to do with friends.”
