Nothing says brrrrr more than these? October. November. December.
It’s that time of year where the leaves start to fall and the air starts to cool. Many people love to stay indoors, where it’s cozy and comfortable, but it’s important to also get outdoors and stay active. There are lots of fun activities and things to do during the “ber” months, and here’s a few of them.
Apple picking is a great way to celebrate the new season. “Me and my family go apple picking every year because it’s the perfect fall tradition,” says Joanna Vargas, a Sophomore student at Elkhart High School. From late August to early November, apples and ready to pick and enjoy. Spending time with friends and family, gathering delicious apples, makes for a memorable outing. Not only that, but apple picking can actually reduce stress and promote mindfulness, which is good for one’s mental health.
Pumpkin Carving is another activity to try. “It’s fun trying new themes and characters to carve with pumpkins,” says Vargas. Pumpkin carving allows a person to be creative and can make cool decorations. Pumpkin carving itself is already entertaining, but saving the seeds to later roast and eat as a healthy snack can be an added benefit.
Corn mazes are another fall-time favorite. “I love corn mazes! It’s really fun when you’re working with your friends trying to find the exit,” admits Vargas. Corn mazes are a great way to have fun while getting one’s steps in while trying to navigate through the field. They can also help improve motor skills and coordination. Trying to remember where each path leads also helps to keep the brain stimulated.
So, even if deciding to stay indoors at times this fall, there are myriad opportunities to get out into the fresh air. Remember, staying active is important–and enjoyable!
