It’s nearing the home stretch of the 2024-2025 school year; so, that means AP exams are right around the corner.
This year, 28 AP Exams will be given digitally through Bluebook. For the remaining non-Bluebook AP Exams, the modes will vary. Some students will be participating in hybrid test-taking for subjects such as AP Biology, AP Chemistry, AP Physics, and AP Calculus. “AP Exams are standardized exams designed to measure how well you’ve mastered the content and skills of a specific AP course. Most AP courses have an end-of-year exam, but a few courses have different ways to assess what you’ve learned,” according to MyAP College Board.
The 2025 AP Exams will be administered over the course of two weeks in May: May 5-9 and May 12-16. How have students prepared for this exam? Preparations have been completed through the MyAP College Board website and other resources like AP Classroom and practice tests. MyAP offers students in AP courses free online access to AP course materials, resources, and tools for learning and practice leading up to the AP Exams. It provides a way for students to join their AP classes online, receive feedback on their progress, and register for AP Exams. “I think that my AP teacher helped boost my confidence so much within music, and I feel well prepared for the AP exam!” Senior Kadence Lentz exclaims.
There are multiple-choice, free response, and essay practice questions to assist with familiarizing students with examples of questions that will be present on the test. Engaging and participating in one’s AP class is an amazing starting point to preparing for the exam. Senior Shrey Patel notes, “I feel extra prepared for this exam. I always make an effort to ask any questions I may have and participate in any class activities we do.” Asking the AP teacher to potentially go over the exam format in class, as well as other ways to study or practice, could make a huge difference in results. It’s good to set aside consistent time to study, complete assignments given by said teacher, and utilize the AP resources.
Exams can begin between 8 and 9 a.m. for morning exams and 12 and 1 p.m. for afternoon exams. Most AP exams are 2-3 hours long. It is encouraged to eat a hearty, healthy breakfast the morning of, and chew or eat something minty throughout the duration of the exam to improve cognitive performance and reduce test anxiety. The key to success on each test is taking it one question at a time.
