The shelves are empty, and the holidays are just around the corner! Stockings are in need of stuffings, and trees are waiting to be piled up with gifts.

This season is unlike any other, and may be just the most important one yet. 2020 has been a year of struggle, heartache, and pain. It welcomed the world with wildfires, a shortage of TP, and the infamous Coronavirus.

This holiday season, many are coming to find that it is more important than any other year. In this time of need, many are left with heartache and pain. With only the simple pleasures left to enjoy, it appears that these simple gifts are more important now than ever before. A smile, many  have learned is a precious thing and should be cherished.

As time continues to run out, many are stuck on finding that perfect gift to bring their loved one that smile this year. These perfect gifts seem to have many in a rut; however, the following simple gifts seem to do just the trick.

The warm light and soft scents that candles emit often make perfect last minute gifts. Often these small little wonders are both affordable and wonderful. They are versatile and have thousands of different scents and looks. Not only are they neutral gifts that fit most, they can be found everywhere!

The simple coffee mug might also do just the trick! Mugs can provide one with that warm feeling inside both literally and figuratively. They store the hot drinks that this season has to offer and can be a lovely keepsake. A mug often can dawn a meaningful message, a joke between the receiver and bearer, or contain a picture that warms one’s heart. Either way, mugs can let one know that he or she is fondly thought about and also make a quick and easy gift.

Homemade goods are by far the most thoughtful and precious gift among the three. Sharlyn Islas,Elkhart-East junior, shares. “Cookies and snacks are always my favorite thing to get during Christmas. They are delicious and let you know what you are thinking of.” There are countless recipes and ideas online, many of which are easy to make.

When all is said and done, the greatest gift is the joy one can bring to others. During these stressful times, it is necessary to smile and laugh. Life shouldn’t stop–and within everything, there is beauty and happiness waiting to be found.
