As Christmas rolls around, senior students will be trying to cross items off of their wishlists. College will be here in the blink of an eye; therefore, students want to be prepared for their time spent away in a new school environment.
What should incoming college students ask for during Christmas shopping? one may ask; practicality, comfort, and a touch of fun should be the guiding principles when choosing these gifts.
Technology is indispensable for college students. A reliable laptop or tablet can be a huge game-changer, enabling the student to take notes, complete assignments, and stay connected with family and friends. Senior Jada Carey notes, “I would definitely enjoy a reliable device–a MacBook for instance. Having access to it would motivate me to get my assignments done while also being able to contact my friends and family from a distance.” Another tech item that is most wanted is noise-cancelling headphones. They provide a quiet study environment in bustling dorms or libraries. Additionally, a portable charger would be beneficial for students who are constantly on-the-go.
Comfort items–such as blankets, throw pillows, and other cozy additions–that make their dorm rooms feel like home are perfect to buy during the holiday season. Senior Aleah Hodges says, “I’m hoping to receive cute bedding and plushies for my dorm room. I want to make my new space as comfortable as possible, so that I am able to have a good study session whether I leave my dorm or not.”
Organizational tools are essential for allowing students to manage their busy schedules. A planner or bullet journal can assist them in keeping track of assignments, deadlines, and social events. Senior Dylan Cortes says he is asking for a physical planner to plot down events throughout his day. He adds, “Sometimes I get so busy, and I just want to stay focused and organized while attending college.” Desk organizers and storage solutions—under-bed storage bins or shelving units—can help maximize their small living spaces. These tools not only keep students’ environment tidy but also support their productivity and time management skills.
Gifts that provide a bit of fun and relaxation are always appreciated. A subscription to a streaming service can offer much-needed breaks from studying. Fitness gear encourages students to stay active and relieve stress. Even a gift card to a local coffee shop or bookstore can be a delightful treat, giving students the opportunity to explore their new surroundings.
Christmas gifts for incoming college students should balance comfort, practicality, and enjoyment. Considering needs and preferences can allow one to make a significant impact on their new lives.
