To me, beauty is about being comfortable in your own skin. It’s about knowing and accepting who you are. – Ellen Degeneres

Few people seem “truly comfortable” in their “own skin.” They look in the mirror and hate what they see—often believing that there is simply “too much” in that reflection. But, what makes someone want to shed that image? So often, it is the overwhelming pressure to have the “perfect body.” Thus, the hunt for a “miracle” diet begins. The reality, though, is that not all diets have the same results on all people. Like clothing, it requires the perfect fit.

Below are some examples of the more popular talked about diets that claim to make people fit and trim for the summer. One caution, though: While one of these may ultimately solve a weight issue, none will address the underlying self-image ones.

Keto Diet-To start off, let’s look at the most commonly used diet: the Ketogenic diet, most commonly known as the Keto diet. The Keto diet is, in basic terms, eating “almost no carbs” and lots of fats. The Keto diet focuses on minimizing “bad” carbs, like pasta or cereal, and focusing on whole grains, fruit, vegetables, and legumes.

Tongue Patch Diet-The Tongue Patch Diet is actually quite painful. The Tongue Patch Diet makes eating painful and almost impossible. This diet was first introduced to the U.S. by Dr. Nikolas Chugay, 11 years ago after seeing it done in Latin America. The diet follows a strict 800-calorie-per-day liquid diet of shakes and low calorie beverages until the patch is removed one month later. This diet also includes a 45-minute workout daily.

“No Pain, No Gain.”

Mediterranean DietThe Mediterranean Diet is inspired by traditional ideas of people who live around the Mediterranean Sea. This diet is centered on plant-based foods such as fruit, vegetables, whole grains, legumes, plenty of virgin olive oil, and fish.

Whole30 Diet-The Whole30 Diet was originally a 30-day clean eating program. The basic point of the “reset” is to eliminate, or cut out, foods that many people are sensitive to that are considered “healthy.” Once the thirty days are up, it is encouraged to add some of the foods back to see what caused the issues.

Weight Watchers Freestyle-The Weight Watchers basic program relies on a point system called SmartPoints that gives the subscriber a point budget based on his or her current weight. Different foods have different point values. Freestyle is a version of Weight Watchers that gives more flexibility and freedom to the people who use the Weight Watchers Freestyle diet.

Vegan DietThe Vegan Diet’s concept is pretty simple and easy to understand. Vegans are not allowed to eat animal products—anything associated with animals—or drink any animal products, such as dairy products. It is also frowned upon to use any animal-made products for anything, not just eating, such as shampoo.

Remember, no matter what a person looks like on the outside, the inner beauty will always reign as the most valuable part of one’s being. Therefore, starve one’s stomach if he must, but always feed the soul.
