Good Things Come In Threes: Even Dynamic Duos

Good Things Come In Threes: Even Dynamic Duos

Hanna Al-Aloosi, Staff Writer

Doesn’t everyone just love dynamic duos? Like the superhero sidekick or the frenemies who make anyone watching them die of laughter? Well, good news for people who love any kind of dynamic duos, because THREE movies are coming out with some of the best dynamic duos of the century.

Let’s start with the upcoming movie Uncharted–featuring  the Avengers’ very own Spiderman, also known as Tom Holland, and one of the best actors of all time, Mark Wahlberg. Both are stepping out of their traditional casting roles, especially for Tom Holland. This upcoming adventure movie is the adaption of a Playstation video game, and it mainly gives off Indiana Jones vibes, with a bit of laughing hysterics from the jokes and jabs between the actors. “I am definitely watching this movie!” shares Chloe Oswald, a junior, “not just because it has Tom Holland in it–okay, maybe a little bit–but it looks very interesting and seems to be a great movie by the trailer.”  As much as anyone knows about the movie so far, it centers around Nathan Drake (played by Tom Holland) and Victor “Sully” Sullivan (played by Mark Wahlberg) who go out into the unknown world on a quest to find some of the greatest treasure that has never been discovered–while also tracking down clues to Nathan Drake’s long-lost brother. “Sounds good,” adds sophomore Vincent Johnson. “I wouldn’t mind watching it!” This exciting movie will be playing in theaters this Friday, Feb.18..

Speaking of this Friday (Feb. 18), here comes the next dynamic duo…but with a cute twist!  One half of the duo is what looks to be a German Shepherd but is actually a Belgian Malinois! How cute. How could anyone say no to watching that? “Just seeing the trailer, I think it will be a good comforting movie for myself and many others to watch,” senior Christopher Dixon says in praise. Sharing a release date with Uncharted is this aptly named movie: Dog. In it, Channing Tatum and Lulu the Belgian Malinois will be sharing the starring credits. This movie is inspired by Channing Tatum’s very own dog named Lulu that unfortunately passed away three years ago. The main plot of the movie focuses on an Army Ranger named Briggs (played by Channing Tatum) who is trying to make it to a soldier’s funeral on time. Along the way, this Ranger has to get out of multiple sticky situations–the law, personal struggles, and even a brush with death–with his canine driving buddy Lulu. Will they make it there on time or not?  Will Lulu and Briggs finally get through their personal struggles with each other? “I hope to see how this one dog helps a person through his human relationships,” excitedly comments Human Services Principal Mrs. Latosha Bonds. “It will be an interesting movie to see!”  Get tickets for this Friday to see!

Clearly, Channing Tatum has been pulling double duty, as he is not just part of one dynamic duo hitting the silver screen in the upcoming weeks but part of two duos! In The Lost City, instead of his best mate being a show-stealing dog, it will be Miss Congeniality herself: Sandra Bullock! “Sandra Bullock is just one of those actors that you would just go see her movie no matter what it is, as long as she’s in it,” states Mrs. Bonds. The movie centers around Sandra Bullock’s character, Loretta Stage, as a popular author of adventure novels–with the cover model being Alan, who is played by Channing Tatum. While promoting her new novel, Loretta Stage gets kidnapped by a billionaire who wishes to find a lost treasure, which gives Alan the opportunity to portray the character Loretta wrote of in order to save her. Will Loretta Stage be saved? Will a treasure be found? What is going to happen next in this upcoming movie? The Lost City comes out in theaters on March 25.

So, what is it that makes these movies so spectacular? All three have found the secret ingredients to turn them into blockbusters: adventure, chaos…and dynamic duos. Undoubtedly, there are many more questions one could ask about these movies, but he main ones now should be Which movie should I see first?  and When should I buy my tickets for them before it’s too late?
